In 1982, when the computer age finally moved into the music world, the album “BIG SCIENCE” was released and made even everyone who had to do with this type of music look very pale. LAURIE ANDERSON sent her voice through a computer, putting the universal pain of the bit age in a nutshell. Laurie Anderson, an American performance artist who had more to do with theater and actions, incidentally and briefly became a pop star and an icon of the techno scene that began 10 years later, but this may only apply to a very limited extent, as she is never the only one .or was even the inventor of this style of music. “Big science” was certainly one of the most innovative albums of 1982.
“Big science” was far more groundbreaking in 1982 than any Kraftwerk album or the Depeche Mode, which was just starting at the time. Conventional instruments like the saxophone and bagpipes find their place on the songs as well as the computer, which dominates everything.
“Big science” is a classic and should have influenced many other musicians like Massive Attack or Air and above all the techno scene of the 90s.
