The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Session Project – We Are Only Riders (2LP)

A very special band project is “We Are Only Riders”. In honor of Jeffrey Lee Pierce, well-known artists came together to interpret fragments from the estate of the singer of the blues-punk formation The Gun Club, who died in 1996. Pierce’s former bassist Cypress Grove found the song fragments, lyrics and tapes, and he also managed to win over a number of prominent voices for their first-time interpretation. Including Debbie Harry (Pierce was once chairman of the Blondie Fan Club in Los Angeles), who among others. sings in a duet with Nick Cave, Mark Lanegan (solo and with Isobel Campbell), Lydia Lunch, The Raveonettes, The Sadies and David Eugene Edwards. The result is dazzlingly beautiful and is reminiscent of one of the most important blues singers of the US underground.
