Tassos Chalkias – Divine Reeds Obscure Recordings From Special Music Recording Company: Athens 1966-1967 (LP)

Tassos Chalkias was an exceptional clarinet virtuoso and legendary figure of traditional folk music of Greece. Hailing from Epirus, in Northwest Greece and younger member of the historic musician family of Chalkiades, he tour around the country where he performed in fairs and soon started recording. In the early 50’s he performed in Cairo and later moved to US where he gained world recognition. In the 70’s returned to Greece and continued his mythical work. Died in early 90’s with 30 clarinet players performing a lament of Epirus in his grave. Divine Reeds is an ode to the Sound of Epirus and the legacy that Chalkias left, significally curated by Fred and Mech of Radio Martiko.
